I imagine that there should be a piece on Animal Planet, the History Channel, et al, that needs a new angle: perhaps to uncover the world's most astounding, vicious, and dangerous dogs. Training sessions are a great way for these high energy dogs to use up their extra energy and simply to enjoy themselves. None of our dogs have ever been chewers (thank goodness!), but Tenor was the one that showed some early tendencies toward chewing. From a behavior perspective, this is a perfect example of the positive consequences rendered from rewarding behaviors you like in your dog as they occur. People relate to cute little puppies, even if they are not a dog lover, puppies are just irresistible. If you have a dog or did at one time, you know what it is like coming home from a hard days work.

If you will be having inside visitors for the evening, remind your guests not to give your pet any candy no matter how cute they think he or she is. Tell them of the health risks involved with candy and pets. The distinct clips of Poodles make them one of the most recognizable dogs in the world. It is not uncommon for a toy Poodle to be timid and high strung, so owners need to make an effort to teach them not to snap when they are startled or teased. A toy Poodle is therefore a great dog for families with older children who understand how to be considerate of dogs.

If your dogs are anything like mine, they love digging through their precious pile and bringing out their beloved toys one by one, leaving a lovely scattered array of stuffed squirrels and squeaky balls all over your living room floor. Teaching your dog to give their paw for a handshake is a pretty standard trick that's easy to teach. The next part is getting your dog to leave their paw for a quick nail trim, which can be a struggle for many pups. The trick with this one is to take it slow, and incrementally adjust your dogs to getting their nails clipped, buffed, and painted (okay, maybe not the last one).

Your dog should be able to go in and out (or weave) through a series of poles in a dog agility training course. Using the command weave" walk your dog through the poles with the first pole passing your dog's left shoulder. Position your dog facing down the pole line and holding a treat in your hand, lead your dog through the poles again ,but instead of you walking through the poles, make sure your dog only weaves through the poles. If needed, lead your dog by holding onto their collar or a short leash to make sure they are properly weaving in and out of the pole course.

Keep repeating these steps until your dog raises his foot automatically every time you give the command. If your dog needs a little encouragement to lift his foot off the ground, gently tap the inside of his knee with your finger until he bends his leg. Tricks?…..we have dogs that can unlock and open kennel doors, and all of the dog gates in the house have had to be modified as they had figured them out in days. There's one big mistake this article makes: you should always say the command WHEN the dog is doing it, not before. Handlers use several tricks and put them together as a routine, then add music.

Sophie's owner Joanne Pearce, who works dog training at the University of Toronto, discovered their trick when she was blowing up yellow balloons for a lab at the school's Scarborough campus. I don't have a dog, so I invited all the people in Scarborough to come dog training and bring their dogs so we could have a really good party and that's what we did today," De Baeremaeker said.

On-leash dog training is necessary in order for your pet to understand do's and don'ts every time you're walking together. Although officially man's best friend," dogs have some innocent but irksome tendencies-like jumping up to greet, barking , digging and chewing-that can make it downright difficult to live with them! Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and hers, enhance the bond between you, and ensure her safety-and it can be a lot of fun. Your dog needs to understand how you'd like her to behave and why it's in her best interest to comply with your wishes. Some people will tell you that the key is to use a firm hand"-to make sure your dog doesn't think she can get away with naughty behavior. Some people argue that you should only use rewards in dog training and avoid punishing your dog in any way.

These are all things that are important to recognize because you want your dog to begin to feel comfortable around those triggers. Once you have identified all the triggers, you can begin to desensitize your dog to those and create a positive association. To do this, stand a safe distance from the distraction where your dog notices but does not react. This creates a positive association between the trigger so that each time your dog sees the scary thing, he starts to feel happy because he knows he will get his favorite treats. If your dog gets to the point where he can't look at you, move away from the distraction.

Your Role as Student and Teacher: It is very helpful if you can have Housebreaking Your Puppy a calm demeanor when training your dog. As a teacher, be consistent and establish a training routine for you and your dog. The 15 Minute Rule: When training your dog yourself, keep in mind that they can only hold attention for about fifteen minutes at a time. Different dog breeds have different temperaments and different dogs within a breed have different personalities. Though the basic commands are similar amongst various training methods, one method may be better for your dog than another. The key is to remember that training your dog is fun and a great Housebreaking Your Puppy opportunity for you to bond.

There is no need to make a big fuss about it. Just go on with your training session like nothing happened, and make sure that you won't make the same mistake again. Integrating the training of your dog to his daily routine can go a long way, as far as achieving success in your training program is concerned. Keep in mind that whatever you have achieved with your dog today, he may be able to forget it tomorrow. The more you repeat your command, and the more you make sure that your dog follows it, the more it would become effective to your dog.

I look forward to sharing my insight and ultimately helping you train your performance puppy or dog through throughout this program.
